Recently renovated, this slightly elevated plaza on the east side of Lexington Avenue and the north side of East 36th Street is a visually elegant terrace wrapping around the building. The granite retaining walls along the public sidewalk are courtly, the railing on the ledge refined. The entry to the building, under a green canopy that bisects the terrace, has been well served.

During a July 2014 walk through of the space, we observed that the plaza at 137 E 36th Street was under significant construction at the time of our visit. Its odd shape, lack of sunlight, and lack of seating make the space uninviting. More plantings and some kind of seating would help create a much more open and welcoming atmosphere to the space.
