Although this arcade is the least usable of the three privately owned public spaces in the city associated with the name of the Swedish diplomat and Nobel Prize winner, its elegant presentation is worth noting. Black columns contrast with red paving tiles and white ceiling. Brass-colored banisters assist the walk up the two steps from Second Avenue. Planters at exterior and interior edges are lined with polished red-granite walls and ledges, with a height amenable to seating. As a public space, the arcade is nice to look at, if not significantly usable. As an entry terrace for the building, it is both handsome and functional.
