Our website is a digital space for collaboration about physical space. We invite you to participate  in the creation of knowledge designed to secure greater public use of New York City’s 525 or so POPS, those zoning-created plazas, arcades, and other outdoor and indoor privately owned public spaces. Here is an archive of comments from visitors like you.

MP on 201 West 70th Street:
The building is supposed to have a wide sidewalk on all sides. However, on the North side (71st street), there are 2 permanent structures obstructing the POPS. Also, has someone examined the private park on the West side of the building? Does not make sense that it's not a POPS given the permitted zoning adjustments for the building.
APOPS on 9 West 57th Street:
Dear Doug, That sounds like an unpleasant experience. We assume that you were in the plaza on 58th Street. We will check into the current legal status of the space and report back to you here in the coming days.
Doug on 9 West 57th Street:
I was recently kicked off the area next to the SOLO57 building between 5th and 6th ave. (I was with my leashed dog and 8 yr old son) - Lot #142 - 9 W. 57th st. The building rep told me it was private property and I was trespassing (Sunday morning). There is no sign, fence or obstruction to the space....its open from the sidewalk. It is a nice area with a fountain and lots of empty space (gravel ground) to run around in. Are there POP rules for this lot that stipulate no dogs and or trespassing information?
APOPS on 100 United Nations Plaza | 871 United Nations Plaza:
Thanks for the photo. This space can be truly inviting, and your photo draws us in to the watery calmness of the space. The man sitting at the end of the space to the right of the "waterfall" provides a nice compositional touch.

APOPS on 1221 Sixth Avenue | McGraw-Hill:
Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the public. It is "your" eyes on the street that help keep public space public. Ideally there would be an ongoing, proactive monitoring program. For the moment, resources in public and private sectors have not been up to this task.
David Moss on 1221 Sixth Avenue | McGraw-Hill:
The sunken plaza and both raised platforms beside it were closed off Sunday, April 27th.
John Smith on Matchmaker Café proprietor Nancy Slotnick reports from the field of WATER STREET POPS!:
Matchmaker Cafe is really a very good idea. Well done Nancy Slotnick !

Red Ken on An interesting blog piece on POPS and public space.:
Ha! You do know that "blog piece" was written by Adam Greenfield, right?
