Our website is a digital space for collaboration about physical space. We invite you to participate  in the creation of knowledge designed to secure greater public use of New York City’s 525 or so POPS, those zoning-created plazas, arcades, and other outdoor and indoor privately owned public spaces. Here is an archive of comments from visitors like you.

Anonymous Snacker on 200 Water Street:
The chairs and tables are gone. They were there in Winter and during rain season and were great. NO HOMELESS slept there then, though now two are persistently sleeping on the floor in the place. I spent some nights in the place and one very strong storm. There was no trouble at all, I could snack on the pharmacy and go back for more and find a place. But now the tables are gone. Can YOU bring them back? I think they are VERY MUCH NEEDED. There is now a park with benches in front but no tables and it is now a zone for snacking and eating outside while the weather lasts. I prefer to remain anonymous, lest I be used to further deny this space.
Tom on 108 Fifth Avenue:
We (the class and I) visited this POPS as part of a Placemaking seminar that I conducted at Pratt Institute on July 30. It was generally the same condition as described below from a 2012 posting. There is no: artwork, drinking fountain, litter receptacles, plaque/ sign, seating (the wooden benches have been removed and the other seating has been obstructed with continuous spikes), or water feature. It is debatable whether the intent of the other requirements are fulfilled, but their condition is questionable.

I live near here and did not know this one even existed. these plazas are a joke.
Liz O on 825 Eighth Avenue:
I was harassed by security for putting my feet up on a chair while reading a book in this park. Is this really the kind of policing POPS security is for. Let people live and enjoy these spaces.
Doris on 1700 Broadway:
All POPS should have signs for us to know that it is accessible to public also the public should be accessible under Park Laws, i.e., eating, drinking, hours of operation, etc. Owners should comply with contracted required compliances. POPS aren't complying.
LP on 240 East 47th Street:
The 47th Street entrance continues to be closed daily.
Chris O'Leary on 135 West 52nd Street:
This space has been closed for construction in the building for well over a year. When construction gates are open, you can see that the vast majority of the space is not being used for construction purposes.

They are doing major construction here. I took two photos: here is the site plan.
