Our website is a digital space for collaboration about physical space. We invite you to participate  in the creation of knowledge designed to secure greater public use of New York City’s 525 or so POPS, those zoning-created plazas, arcades, and other outdoor and indoor privately owned public spaces. Here is an archive of comments from visitors like you.

Mike on 118 West 57th Street | Le Parker Meridien:
I agree with you on this. I don’t know what happened to the sign, or if there has been a code change. I’d call 311 and open a query. Surprisingly, they’ll been helpful in the past with such complaints.
Marco Mattia on 685 First Avenue:
Looking for information about this POPS at 685 First Ave. There aren't any signs posted, but I was chased away from the rear of the building for simply walking thru the area (I was cutting thru from 40th to 39th streets.
Alex on 118 West 57th Street | Le Parker Meridien:
Is there a sign anywhere inside or outside the building stating that the through block arcade is for public use? I would like use it to strengthen my argument if next time I am intervened by their staff.
APOPS on 401 West 31st Street:
The data you see for each POP (numbers of chairs, plantings, etc) is updated about annually. The descriptions in the body of the pages are from the book "Privately Owned Public Space: The New York City Experience" by Jerold Kayden. This book was published in 2000 so it's likely some of the information has changed since then.
iman on 180 Maiden Lane:

J Sherman on 50 East 89th Street:
This has been going on for many years. They were allowed to build extra floors on their building on the condition that they gave the public access to their park
Michael on 835 Sixth Avenue:
This place is filthy. It used to be better maintained. What happened?
